This one hits close to home for me. I was Keith's age when I was homeless in Hollywood and I was addicted to drugs with no end in sight. Keith is open about being addicted to heroin. When the market crashed Keith lost his job in the housing industry. He was addicted to pain killers and started to use heroin because it was cheaper. Before you judge Keith you should know drugs like heroin and crack cocaine will completely take your life away. Alcohol can too, but drug addiction is much worse. Keith talks very candid about the grip of heroin on a life. It takes your life away. Keith may sound like he enjoys street life, but really listen to what he is saying. This homeless heroin-addict is a million times more lucid and well spoken than most people on earth, hope he's doing well his mind and reasoning still seem intact Thats exactly how I felt the first year and a half being homeless and hooked on fentanyl . I didn't want to quit and I enjoyed the sense of freedom of not being tied down to a job, and obligations. But eventually you get sick of it, you will hit rock bottom and you will make very serious attempts to get clean with every ounce of will you have, and fall right back into it. Thats when people give up and completely let themselves go. And from there you will hit your bottom many times over, and its hell, literally hell. I never prayed to God before my heroin addiction but I cried for God to help me nearly every morning on the streets. I always knew I would get clean someday despite failing so many times, and I finally did manage to get clean, get a job save money and live a good life again but the suffering that had to take place to want to quit badly enough to make it, was so devastating it has changed me forever He’s very self-aware, but he still shows a lot of the classic behaviors of an addict. “I can quit whenever I want.” “My life’s just on pause.” All addicts think like that, but when you allow yourself to exist in that mindset what usually ends up happening is you wake up one day as a 55-year-old, still addicted and on the street, who still thinks they’ll just quit any day now. You have to give yourself the motivation to quit right now, because every second you use trying to mental gymnastic your way out of the dire implications of your life is another second of your life wasted. As a 35-year-old, you still have most of your life ahead of you, you can still live up to your potential. But your chances of doing that go down with each passing year. It’s especially sad how he’s convinced himself that things like his family and having a home were no big deal and that he’s just fine with losing all that. He is, in the most classic definition of the word, coping with his current circumstances by trying to convince himself things couldn’t be much better. I’m not saying he should make himself be miserable all the time by thinking about the things he lost, but rather it should be used as motivation to get those back. Instead he’s convinced himself they don’t matter. Based on some of the comments here he might be in a better place now, a decade later, and I really hope he is. But if any other addicts are watching this video right now, I hope you keep all this in mind. Change never comes until you make it. If you wait for it to come to you, you’ll end up wasting your entire life. I’m not saying it’s easy. It’s one of the hardest things to do. But it’s also one of the most important. Wow found him on Facebook and he looks so healthy! What a great down to earth man! Addiction hits everywhere and I'm glad he made it out OK! I'm rooting for ya Keith! This guy mentally and physically better than most even without a home. Upstanding character shining through a crippling addiction and maintaining positivity during a low point. smart guy, hasn't lost his mind yet. I hope he gets clean. Keith wrote me a kind reply to a message I sent last year. He’s a highly intelligent, respectable, honestly good guy, who speaks for tens of thousands of opioid addicts out here. His story is my story, and I hope the best for him. I decided to watch this interview clip again because it made such an impression on me the first time. People who have never been addicted to opioids couldn't never understand the pain of going through withdrawal. Even after 5 years clean, the absolute fear of that pain is what keeps me sober to this day. I don't EVER want to feel that excruciating pain again. He’s extremely good at communication, and is clearly very smart. My sister overdosed on heroin a few years back. Seeing this just brings back those hopeless feelings of trying to helping a loved one. You can't help anyone that doesn't want to help themselves, but I still can't imagine experiencing the addiction of opioids. I don't blame her. I miss her dearly Towards the end, "I'm totally fine with all of it, but if I had one wish it'd be to enter a time-lapse where I never knew what opiates are like" hit me so hard ???? This dude is homeless and addicted to heroin and still has a better positive mental attitude than I do. Man, my heart goes out to those who are addicted. It's unrealistic and corny as hell, but I just wish everyone could be happy and healthy. This guy definitely seems like he's intelligent and realizes his own limitations, and I hope all these years later he's in a much better spot. I've never been addicted to any substance, and I know it doesn't mean much from a stranger, but if you suffer from addiction, keep up the good fight. You'll get through. Just take it one day at a time. This is one of the most inspiring people I have ever seen. How he says he'll get everything back when he's ready to... the confidence and hope he has is really inspiring. As someone who has more than many I am constantly stressed ill lose everything and fail to get out. But thus man has lost everything AND is currently an addict and still believes his future will come when he kicks it. Truly inspiring, I have hopes this guy turns things around when he's ready. 11yrs later hope he found his reason to stop The dude has such a healthy attitude towards his addiction. He doesn't want to "kid himself" and tell everyone he's quitting when we's not... He knows he can quit but he has to be ready and he's not. This is a good foundation. For those of you wondering like I was. He is still alive as of 2019. His name is Keith Stamm. He seems like a good person, he feeds cats. He is well spoke. What a waste of talent. I hope he is well, he deserves so much better. If anyone has any updates up him I would love to know. I love how honest he is about his situation. It's pretty rare to see someone in this situation who does not blame society or others for the way their life turned out. I applaud the dude. Wow! He did not wish for any money or any other s**t like that, he just wanted his dog and cat back ???? Reminds me a hell of a lot like my uncle Dennis. Passed away 4 years ago now from a fentanyl overdose (cut heroin) around the same age. Was an incredibly intelligent man and had a tremendous impact on my life. Hope this guy is doing well?? A powerful reminder that everyone addicted to drugs is an entirely viable and precious life, and its sad so many people see addicts as demons instead of humans. I hope Keith is doing better now. The man is very honest about his addiction. That’s a step most addicts never even reach. There is hope. Hope life took this guy on a better path, you can tell he’s numb to everything that’s happened. I really hope that this man made a better life for himself. Really bummed me out when he said he'd wish for his dog and his cat to come back. That one hit me. Looks like a super chill dude. They say it's like you have been deathly ill your whole life, and you just found the cure. That stuff is absolutely terrifying. There’s still hope for this man. If he can get off the addiction he will have a bright future again. This is an example of how addiction doesn’t discriminate The video was posted over 10 years, just before the fentanyl epidemic became more prevalent and tragic. I hope this man wasn’t a victim to synthetic opioids and that he’s still alive. 11 years later and I wonder how he is today? I hope he is alive and well. as an alcoholic this fucking hit me. trying to get sober, throwing up two days at a time and you can feel "right again" by just going down the street. its a fucking vicious cycle that seemingly never ends. i hope hes okay now. Respect In a weird way, this guy is an inspiration. its been 11 years, I hope this guy is doing better now About all the videos I saw, this is one of the ones that touched my heart the most. First, because Keith accepts his state of addiction with total sincerity; and secondly because when the interviewer asks him to choose 3 wishes, in none of them does he ask for money or a house or anything; he just wants a pill that will make him forget about the effects of heroin and then he wants to bewith his pets again. His humanity is impressive. How I would like to meet him, give him a sincere hug and be able to help him in some way. This video reached deep into my soul. God bless him and protect him. This guy is smart and I feel for him, but he is in a state of denial if he believes this is temporary. People always look down on all kinds of addicts, but little do they know they're addicts themselves, just in different degrees. Some people are addicted to coffee, others are addicted to the rush of buying useless shit. No addict is better than others, and we're all puppets of our own environments. Instead of judging individuals, you should judge the industry that abuses the vulnerability of people by prescribing life altering drugs with extreme dependency. A lot of addicts I've met were extremely bright minds, ruined by themselves. They were destined to "get far", but getting far doesn't always create fulfillment, and so they turn to other things to fulfill their empty voids. this guy was so down to earth honest and real that I truly hope he gets the help he needs when he wants it For wishing to get his dog back and his cat back he deserves tons of respect. Decent human being all the best for him. That music was not the vibe ????, but I do hope that Keith finds his way out of his addiction, he is super honest and honestly goes a long way. I like this guy, he's honest, takes full accountability for his actions and doesn't take things for granted. The sanity of this man is outrageous, really strong what drugs do to humans Seems like a cool guy. Good person. Hope he finds what he needs/wants.
